The Last Slayer - Nadia Lee This ARC was kindly provided to me by Carina Press through Netgalley :)The Last Slayer was a fun, and interesting start to a series to which I'll definitely continue! Since I like to make lists, here's a list of things I noted about the book:1. Ashera was a great protagonist. If you're looking for a strong-minded strong-willed character, Ashera's your girl. I loved her humor; it slightly reminded me of Charley Davidson from First Grave on the Right, which is a good thing because I love Charley.2. Ramiel. Mmm! He was such a sexy character ;) I'll just leave that for everyone's imagination.3. The lore in this story was pretty interesting. I enjoyed reading Ashera's story- but also enjoyed reading about the different classes of demons and whatnot. A big deal breaker in a book for me would have to be the lore, and Ms. Lee definitely did it right in this one. She made it interesting but not to the point where I got confused.4. One thing that bothered me was the pacing. It was a little slow to start, sped up, and then slowed again. Now, I'm not asking for all action- but a little bit more would be nice in the second book. *hinthint*5. Also, it was a bit predictable. And when I say a bit- I mean it. It wasn't overly predictable, but some things I figured out pretty quickly. That's not to say there wasn't anything surprising, because trust me, there are lots of surprises in this book!6. The thing that bothered me the most though, was the use of sex in this book. There is an energy-booster type of potion in this that is called "Sex," which helps demon hunters refuel. Naming it "Sex" was just bizarre to me- it's just an odd thing to call something like that. Then also the author uses the word "sex" as another name for genitals. I don't think it was suppose to make me laugh- but it did. What an awkward word choice. And lastly, she used "sex" for it's proper term. It got kind of confusing at points trying to figure out what the hell she was talking about, but it wasn't anything I couldn't ignore.I'm excited to see what Ms. Lee will bring for the next book, and I look forward to reading it! 3.5 stars
